Start by using the seat height lever to raise the chair, then lean the chair on its seat and back on a soft furniture pad. Next, a pipe wrench should be placed on the top of the cylinder close to the bottom side of the seat and used to make multiple turns to loosen the cylinder. Then use a mallet to release the cylinder, which can be replaced with the new cylinder. However, make sure to protect your floor when dislodging the gas cylinder. If the cylinder does not separate from the control, apply WD- 40 where the cylinder is embedded into the control, wait 20 minutes and then repeat the procedure. Finally, install a new cylinder and fix back the chair.
Steelcase Think How To Replace The Lumbar
Remove four Back Cushion screws. Push bottom out and pull up on the Back Cushion to remove. Center the lumbar between the two lower hooks. Start with Back Cushion top bosses in front of the Back Frame top edge and Back Cushion lower tabs in the front of the crossbar. Compress Back Cushion to Back Frame to engage all six hooks, then slide the Back Cushion down. Reverse step 1 to install four screws into the Back Cushion. Torque to 1.45-1.95 Nm. 1. With the Back Cushion removed, the Lumbar Handles can be removed from the Lumbar Pad. Rotate the Handle to 45o, then shift the gap to one end and rotate the Handle to unsnap from Lumbar Pad. Remove the lumbar by sliding it out of the Back Shell slot—reverse steps to install the new lumbar.

First, tip the chair onto its right side on a soft furniture pad, press the seat slide handle under the front of the seat and pull the seat forward to its deepest setting. Next, locate out stop feature, a black tab on the right side of the seat slide rail, insert a screwdriver below the stop out feature, and push it up towards the seat simultaneously. Next, remove the arm assembly and the back by activating the seat height lever and then turning the chair upside down to remove the base from the cylinder with a mallet. Next, install the pneumatic cylinder removal tool on the top part of the cylinder column as close as possible to the control and apply a lifting force to the column with one hand with a hammer in your other hand. Strike the removal tool repeatedly until the parts are separated. Finally, place the new chair control mechanism onto the cylinder and fix back the chair.

Pull the seat depth lever out and slide the seat forward. Push and hold two square black buttons near the rear of the seat as you slide the seat forward and off. Put boost knob in the “boost” position. Recline the back and locate a small black tab on the beige Camlock. Press the black tab with Prybar until it’s in the groove, rocking back to an upright position while holding Prybar. Pry camlock up by pushing Pry bar down toward the chair control. Hold frame as it starts moving around and releasing from the chair control. Remove four Back Shell screws. Push bottom out and pull up on the Back Shell to remove. Install the new seat back by sliding the seat on rails until it clicks and stops. Finally, adjust the seat to ensure proper assembly.
